Implementation of Electro-spinning Method
Electro-spinning method is a process (invented over 50 years ago as early development stage in laboratory) for manufacturing very fine micro fibers. Koken successfully established the way to manufacture the micro fibers with the use of the electro-spinning method in 2009, and launched “FERENA,” the filtering unit that incorporates electro-spun fibers for commercial use, in 2011.
The primary feature of FERENA is that it has an ULPA-level filtering efficiency with a pressure drop that is the same level of HEPA filters.

High content rate of nano fibers
Polyvinyl alcohol resin (PVA resin) is the primary raw material of FERENA. Generally speaking, diameter of fibers made of the PVA resin is said to be 200-300nm; however, FERENA consists of very fine fibers with a high content rate of nano fibers (fibers with a diameter of less than 100nm).

Random structure – an effective texture as filter
Fibers of FERENA forms random structure though they are made by dry spinning process. The intersections of fibers are cohesive in nature, that is very effective as filter.

Water- / oil-resistant
PVA resin is generally weak in water and oil. By blending it with fluorine contained resin, FERENA is water-/oil-resistant.

There was almost no decrease in performance as filter after heat test (temperature: 70 degrees Celsius, 12 hours) was conducted.

Concept of KOACH – A revolutionary airflow technology

Push hood of KOACH generates purified, coherent airflows. Without walls, even the coherent airflows induce surrounding air as they travel away from the air-blowing surface of the hood. Thus, the clean zone gradually becomes smaller. (Fig. 1)

KOACH is a clean zone creator consisting of two push hoods set opposite each other. By making purified, coherent airflows generated by the two opposing hoods to collide with each other, a clean zone can be created. Horizontally- opposed airflows restrict the induction of surrounding air. Thus, there is almost no decrease in the level of air cleanliness within the clean zone, even at a point away from the air-blowing surface of the hoods. (Fig. 2)

The coherent airflows travel at a very low speed, but can reach a long distance. Surprisingly, no one can feel airflows when a hand is put into the clean zone. Because they are uniformed laminar airflows having common vectors and move very slowly, you do not feel air pressure. With this unique design, physical influence by the airflows on substance existing inside the clean zone is limited to the minimum.

By generating coherent airflows that collide between the two push hoods, KOACH can create a wide clean zone without surrounding walls.

By making a collision at the middle of push hoods, purified, coherent airflows are pushed out to vertical and horizontal directions, thus creating a clean zone.

When clean room is not in use (in sleep mode), the air pressure inside the Floor KOACH can be maintained slightly positive by closing the entrance door. However, the room is not entirely airtight; purified air is continuously discharged from the gap created in the connecting parts of the side/upper walls, avoiding the external contaminants from penetrating. Pressure sensors installed on every push hood monitor the air pressure in the room and control the air-blowing speed to the minimum so that air cleanliness in target (ISO Class 1 when there is no dust generation inside the room) is maintained. Power consumption during the sleep mode is cut by approximately 70% compared to the one when the entrance door is open (in operation).
